Break-in means a procedure being done to the motor that let the brushes sit completely on the comm of the motor. My way of doing is
1. Cut or clean the comm first
2. Run the motor at 2 - 3V for 3-4 min, need to keep the motor cold by runninig a fan toward it,
3. Check the surface of the brushes regularly and see if the shiny area covers 70 -80% of brushe surface or not.

This is my own way, may not be prefect. Hope it's helpful.
