Although I have not used any 3-channel control for truck, it really depends on how your 3rd channel is being mapped to your remote control.
I'm using a 4-channel one (Sanwa MT4). My setting is to adjust the gears by turn a knot. I preset the knot for 3 positions only; however, it took some time to fine-tune the proper position.
