標題: 3200 Lipo installation on M03
Thought I'll share some pics of my lipo install. In testing using a sport tuned motor the 3200 ran for 20 minutes before showing signs of slowing, then ran for another 8min 30seconds before the Novak smartstop lipo cutoff kicked in. In terms of power, the lipo pack produced identical lap times to my matched 4200SHV intellect stick pack.
The lipo weighs 197grams compared with 420+grams of the 4200. I charged the lipo 4 days before race day and it still provided the same power as the freshly charged 4200

In the last photo I have circled where 2 washers need to be added to allow for the extra width/length of the lipo when using the Tech racing battery holder. If using the standard battery holder you really need to change to a quick release M03/TL01 item and use more washers to space out even further.

Umm..i suppose he can do his best lap very often with the Lipo due to the weight advantage. However i assume to do a best lap with those heavy 4200.....he probably can perform a hot lap..but not so frequent lor~

Correct me if i am wrong~

Rk2 - Although the lipo is lighter, the 4200SHV seems to have higher speed initially (or more punch). This seems to run out after 1-2 minutes, making the power the same - the lipo is more consistent power.

The track I raced on has many long straights/sweeping turns, with only 3 low speed turns. The weight of the lipo would offer more advantage if the track was tighter, with more acceleration points, less weight = faster acceleration.

which lipo are you using? My friends and I were only comparing fastest single lap. I should check to see if I had more fast laps with the lipo than the 4200.

Another thing I noticed, the mini was traction rolling a lot in the first race with the lipo, but with identical setup in the last race but with the 4200 (extra weight) it didn't traction roll at all. But his could be down to the tyres and the track temp, first race track was cold, last race track was hot - I got my 2 fastest laps of the day in the morning race with the lipo and in the afternoon race with the 4200.
The 3 races in between I changed from Pit Shimizu 30 slicks, to the Pit Shimizu inner mesh tyre (hard front & medium rear) these are the tyres in the photo. My lap times became 0.3 slower with the tyre change. I also did 1 run with 60D type A on the front (for more top speed) and X-patterns on the rear, although faster down the straight, the 60D lack turning, so my lap times were 0.8 slower than my fastest.

I will be testing/racing with the lipo every week or 2, so as I discover more I will share with you.

Orange00 - I haven't tested the lipo in my M04 yet. For more experience read above - sorry to write so much

Or were you after M04 setup advice?

Wow....you are kinda expert with those tire issue!~!

I am using the Orion 3200 too ...but i use it on my 103GT....i raise that post on the Forumula section of the forum.

For the advatage of the Lipo, i have the same feelign as you. The power is very consistent, all the way...until that Blue LED from the smart stop start flashing......The weight is also a major benfits, this has a great effect on the overall roll of the chassis. When i was using 3300...the car will be twisting left and right under braking......but with Lipo...the 103 sticks on the road !!!

… still learning a lot, even after 10 years! I just spend too much time racing mini!

I have about 10+ sets of mini tyres in different compounds with different inserts, the weather/track conditions change from race to race in Melbourne, what works at 10am, doesn't work as good at 11am, I usually run softer compound in the morning, to harder compound by the afternoon.

Nice F103!

The F103 weighs even less than a mini, so with a lipo it would weigh much less again!

Which motor do you run?

Oh..you race in Melborune.....i was in Melborune for 10 eyars too..but move back to HK since 2001 lu~~~Which track are u having those race? I use to play in Templestowe near East Doncaster (where i sued to live)~

My 103 is running with an Atlas 23T

Speed is awesome~

Really? I used to race at Templestowe, but that was a few years ago, maybe from 1998 - 2003, then I started racing more at Boronia, but the track is very far away from the city, so now I stick to racing at Keilor - only 15 minutes to get to the track

Wow! 23T, that must be fast! Does the car spin out under acceleration? Which tyres are you using?

I have no idea where those track locates..should take a Melway out..heheh

For the 103..23T is fast down the straight..but to play it well..i suppose ur finger got to be quite smooth. in all kinds of turn, if you press the throttle all the way.....the car will just spin.....

The only one time u wont spin during full throttle is when ur car gets to medium speed and hunt the car in front down the straight...that was soooooooo cool~

Heard that from shopkeeper in KWS, 4800 already stop production as 3200 is stay at a better position in terms of both performance and cost. That orion 3200 more less the same price as TT01. There still Peak racing also have exactly the same battery also manufacturing by Kokam.

Never mind. Actually I'm nearly completely phase out the NiMH and use Lipo only.
As I play RC just for fun. I use Lipo just because I'm a very lazy guy. In Hong Kong when we play outside (not at the track, usually will bring around 8-10 pack. So we can forget about charging. But you can imagine the weight at the bag and those time spend to maintain before and after playing... is qute trouble. For the moment I'm using Orion, Peak Racing and also Preminum Power.

Orange00 - I see, so now your battery bag will weigh half what it did. I've only been using my lipo for a week, how long have you been using lipo? Have you noticed any drop off in performance? Less voltage or less run time? You have a few brands, do any stand out as the best? Or are they all the same?

Rcplayer - yes, the 3200 fits the chassis nicely. The 3200 seems to be slightly longer than a 4200 stick pack, so the only modification I had to do was to install the Tech Racing battery holder and then add 2x 1mm thick washers to space the end plate out to allow for the extra length of the lipo. My friend runs lipo but his setup is different, on one side he uses the fixed part of the M03 quick release system using 6mm of spacers to space the fiber glass plate away from the support to give enough clearance for the battery, because of the extra spacers he had to use different screws to mount this piece as the supplied ones aren't long enough, instead he uses the screws which are used as the shock shafts in the friction shocks.

Peak Racing and Orion is exactly the same Kokam cell inside. No different except the brand sticker. I run them bi weekly or say monthly. nothing take care yet. Just recharge the battery after using them. For premium power, I used it just once last week. will see if any different. By the way, which charger you and your friend using now?
