It depends on the track condition.  Trackside made with soft material is almost crash-proof.  The track (rcphk.wordpress.com) I race these days use RCP materials and parts replacement due to hard hit of the car are rare.  IDT/IMT are very sturdy.  Check this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OZFa26y0Zs
